If coolant temperature indicator comes on while engine is running, stop engine and add more coolant mixture to radiator. Determine cause of this condition and correct.
Install and tighten spark plug s. Start and run engine until it reaches operating temperature. Check condition of all hoses.
Change the oil more often if the vehicle is used in extreme conditions: Replace with a new filter element. Locate the fuel filter A at the front of the engine compartment.
Allow engine to cool and suction back any needed coolant from overflow reservoir. Loosen engine block drain screws E on right side of engine.
Overflow hose must be installed properly to ensure proper function of the cooling system.

Engine exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide and can cause serious illness or death. Touching hot surfaces can burn skin. Use coolant with conditioner or add conditioner to coolant before using. Check container label before using to be sure it has the appropriate specifications for your machine. Fill radiator completely with flushing solution.
Install and tighten radiator cap. Tighten bleed screw completely and install and tighten seervice cap. Slowly open radiator cap A to the first stop to release all pressure. Damage may occur to cast aluminum parts.
Allow engine to cool before servicing. Make sure air intake tube A is free from obstructions. Dirt and debris can enter engine when air cleaner gatorr is opened. Follow the directions on the container for deeee mixture ratio.
Cooling system capacity is approximately 4. Allow coolant to drain into a container. Add recommended coolant mixture to radiator until it runs out of radiator cap hole.
See the label on your antifreeze container or consult your John Deere dealer to obtain the latest information and recommendations. Use a thick rag or gloves to protect your skin. Do not open canister unless required for scheduled service. Check instruction molded into canister cover for proper installation. Start and run engine at medium speed until upper and lower radiator hoses have become warm 10 – 15 minutesindicating thermostat has opened and coolant is circulating.
Lift radiator slightly to access drain plug C. Unscrew the transaxle shift lever knob. Drain cooling system immediately into a container before rust and dirt settle:.
Coolant cannot be drawn into cooling system if suction hose is installed wrong. Remove and discard filter element C. Engine exhaust system may be hot and can burn skin. Remove bleed screw and seal washer A located by carburetor. Replace with new valve if worn, damaged, or missing. Fuel vapors are explosive and flammable:.
The radiator may be hot and can burn skin. If engine is operated at altitudes above m 6, ftsome carburetors may require a special high altitude main jet. If using concentrate, mix approximately 50 percent antifreeze with 50 percent distilled or deionized water before adding to cooling system. After all coolant has drained, install radiator plug or connect radiator hose and tighten the engine block drain screws. The radiator will be hot and can burn skin. Add coolant mixture at bleed screw port B until coolant runs out.
After performing the checks in the troubleshooting section and your engine is still not performing correctly, contact your John Deere dealer. Using incorrect coolant mixture can damage the radiator:. Stop jojn and allow muffler gtor pipe to cool completely before checking spark arrestor.

Release latches A and remove joh cleaner canister cover B. Filter element must be checked more frequently if operating in dusty conditions. Remove screw securing spark arrestor A to muffler exhaust pipe.
Continue running engine until cooling fan starts, indicating the engine and coolant has reached operating temperature. Failure to check the oil level regularly could lead to serious engine problems if oil level is low:.
Remove and discard oil filter.
